The Challenge
Mass transit systems must meet strict life-safety codes such as NFPA-130 and use Low Smoke Halogen-Free materials so cabling does not release toxic gases in a fire. Rolling stock and wayside or trackside cabinets also have very limited space, calling for compact, standardized mounting such as DIN rail, and equipment must handle vibration and temperature extremes from constant vehicle motion and tunnel or platform conditions.
